Barry Hancox and Andrew riley have created a modern airy restaurant and seven stylish bedrooms in a listed building in this picture- postcard Cotswold village. Named after celebrated furniture designer Gordon russell, who once used the building as his headquarters, award-winning russell’s offers chic rooms with state-of-the-art bathrooms and an excellent menu of modern British dishes. start with pressed ham hock and duck egg terrine with pickled gherkins, a cress salad and toasted croûtes. Mains include pork and apple sausages with black pudding, leek mash, roasted beetroot and sage gravy, and breast of corn-fed chicken with dried fruit couscous, roast butternut squash, olives and tagine sauce. For dessert, dark chocolate tart with raspberry sorbet is hard to beat.
